Varsity Mentors is interested in showing boys, girls, and young adults how to prepare healthy meals in a way that meets a slim budget. Hence, BUDGET COOKING.
Budget Cooking has two aims. First, it is a collection of short cooking tutorials hosted on YouTube to provide quick instruction on knife handling, healthy and inexpensive vegetable and meat choices, and single-stove cooking techniques. Here Budget Cooking also provides a venue for students to learn video recording, editing and publishing.
Budget Cooking also occasionally hosts dinners for our students at a Varsity Mentors house. The students prepare and cook the meal, tracking the meal's cost and nutritional value.
In the future, we hope to partner with supermarkets to use their produce to demonstrate simple vegetarian meals and snacks for the public, using a single hotplate.
Budget Cooking is managed by Kristina Myers, who is a registered nutritionist and has had professional experience managing diets and community kitchens.
